Fed: Tuckey says Shell price initiative fairer and simpler

Country motorists, transport and small businesses should benefit under a new fuel pricingsystem announced by Shell Australia today.

Shell says the new terminal gate price scheme will increase fairness and transparencyin the wholesale petroleum market.

The terminal gate price is a wholesale price for bulk fuel available to anyone buyingfuel directly from the terminal.

IAN MCKENZIE, Shell's general manager for external affairs, says all wholesale customerswill be able to buy tanker loads of petrol and diesel direct from Shell's main terminalsat a discounted price.

Federal Regional Services Minister WILSON TUCKEY says the Shell initiative is a significantbreakthrough.

He says country retailers have frequently paid wholesale prices in excess of best capitalcity retail.

The terminal gate prices for unleaded petrol in cents per litre are:

Sydney: 77.1; Melbourne: 76.7; Brisbane: 68.1; Adelaide: 78.5; Hobart: 80.6; Darwin: 82.7.

Terminal gate prices are not listed for Perth with wholesale prices in Western Australiacontrolled by the state government.
