NSW: Youth arrested for vandalising Sydney war memorial

SYDNEY, Feb 10 AAP - A youth scrawled 42 different markings on a Sydney war memorial early
today, causing $20,000 worth of damage, police allege.

Police allegedly spotted the 16-year-old boy at the Hyde Park memorial at 12.50am and gave
chase after he ran off, a police spokesman said.

He was arrested and given a court attendance notice to appear in Bidura Children's Court on
March 2 charged with wilfully damaging a monument and being in custody of an offensive
implement.

The spokesman said police allegedly seized marker pens and a "tag" book containing graffiti
symbols.
